And…

What are we going to do about it?  That’s really the question.

If you’re having neck pain with numbness in the hands you can use the help of a chiropractor in this situation.  This condition is difficult to get it to go away on your own for very long.  I deal with people with numbness in the hands and arms every single day.

We fix pinched nerves all the time.

In my opinion people sit a lot with their arms out in front of them too much.   Humans are getting more hunched over.   We never stretch our arms backwards.  We’re looking down at the cell phones all the time.  This posture ends up pinching nerves that run down the arms.  Sometimes the same nerve can even get pinched in more than one place.   You can actually have a double pinched nerve!

All symptoms have a cause.  They have an underlying condition.  The symptoms is pain and the cause is something else.  Do you want to treat the symptom or the cause?  Well, both, let’s treat both of them.

The underlying cause of most neck pain is that it’s lost the proper curve. Your neck is probably hurting because it’s not shaped right.  We need to look at an x-ray to see if the has a proper curve or not.  This is a big deal when you want to find the root cause of a problem.   You’re supposed to have a curve in your neck.  Your tires on your car are supposed to line up right.  Your house is supposed to be level.  Proper structure matters.  That curve is there for a reason and if you do not have the proper neck curve then that’s a problem.  It’s called a lordotic curvature.

If the neck doesn’t have a proper lordotic curvature we will need to address that.   We have to work to put one back into it.  We will have to reshape it to the correct shape. It takes a little extra work to fix the underlying problem.  Like braces on teeth- it can be done but it takes time.  You will have to do some of this work on your own at home.

If you are reading this and you have a set of digital x-rays you would like us to review them email them to us.

Send us your x-rays and we’ll gladly review them.

If the neck loses its proper lordotic curve it causes a long list of problems.  It can cause pinched nerves.  You may notice your  arm starts hurt, or pinch, or burn, or gets numb and weak.  Many people notice numbness in the hand with a weak grip strength.  Our chiropractic plans address this.  Look for a chiropractor that fixes the problem by putting a curve bac into the neck.   Not all doctors take this extra step.  It takes extra stretching.  It takes extra training.  It takes extra work to go the extra mile.  Stretching a curve back into the neck is how you fix the problem.  It’ simple but it takes extra work.

Why is my arm and hand numb?

The main cause of numbness in the hands is a pinched nerve in the neck, shoulder, or wrist.  We are going to talk about a few of these places.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome – “TOS”

The nerve compression in the shoulder causes the whole arm to go numb.

Who has Thoracic Outlet Syndrome numbness?   I DO!

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is when the nerves get pinched in the shoulder.  Thoracic Outlet syndrome can make your whole arm go numb.  Sleeping on your side can aggravate it.  Sitting all the time can cause it.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome – “CTS”

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) happens when a nerve gets pinched in the wrist.  It causes pain and numbness in the first three fingers of the hand only.  Carpal Tunnel syndrome can be posture related.  Sitting at the computer aggravates it.

Pinched Nerve in the Neck.

Who has a pinched nerve in the neck?

I DO!  I have a pinched nerve in the neck

Placing the arm over the head can help a pinched nerve in the neck!

Are you suffering an electric pain that is running into your shoulder, down the arm & into the wrist or hand? This simple arm movement could help you get some instant pain relief?

If you have a pinched nerve in the neck then this position hay help it.  Put your hand up over your head and see. You see, that nerve is stretched too tight and this puts some slack in it.  This position puts it at ease.  This is a common cause for numbness in the hands.
