With all the scientific things we have today you’d think we know everything that there is to know about the body.  But, alas, we don’t.  New details emerge every day.

Sometimes we find small details and sometimes we find big details.  In 1992 we found something big.  Actually, Dr. Raphael Mechoulam from Hebrew University in Israel discovered something big.  He had been working on it since 1964, when he discovered the first cannabanoid, but it all finally paid off in 1992.  He found something so big that you’d thought we should’ve known about it all along.   Looking back, I think we did know about it, we just didn’t know that we knew.

in 1992 Dr. Mechoulam discovered the human Endocannabanoid system.  He found a whole new system in the body that had millions of parts. It had signals and messages.  It had senders and receivers.  This system was divided into sub systems.  This Endocannabanoid system seemed to exert control over other systems within the body.  It seemed very important.  How could we have missed it?

The scientific community was aghast!   Where have you been all our life?

And to top it off, this system was seemingly a master control system for the body.  It is everywhere!   Part of the Endocannabanoid System is in the brain and central nervous system.  Part of it is in the outer nerves and the organs.  It’s the go between system for regulating everything.  It’s purpose is to keeps everything in harmony.

Actually, cannabis has been used as far back as 5000 years BC in China.  Cannabis for healing was recorded being used in India 1000 years BC.  It has been set in stone in Egyptian hieroglyphics.

It seems maybe we did know about the effects of this system.  We just didn’t have a name or any direct proof about it yet.  We just knew that it worked.

This system is called the Endocannabanoid system and it is present in all mammals.  Everything with a backbone has an Endocannabanoid system!  It is found in the brain, the organs, the glands, connective tissue, the immune system, the heart… you name it and it’s there.  I’m not sure if it’s in every cell but it’s definitely in every organ.  This system regulates many things including pain sensation, appetite, mood, and memory.

The primary purpose of this system revolves around maintaining balance in the body. This is called homeostasis.

Homeostasis

What’s more  – plants can stimulate this system!  Plants produce chemicals called phytocannabanoids.  These plant chemicals are cannabanoids and  can stimulate the receptor sites of our human endocannabanoid system.   These plant cannabanoids stimulate the endocannabanoid system, causes harmony and comfort within the human body. It has the ability to turn down the pain and stimulate the appetite.  Is eases the anxiety and nervousness.  It has soothing and calming properties.

The molecule Dr. Mechoulam and his team actually discovered is called Anandamide.  Anandamide is a naturally occurring brain neurotransmitter.  They wondered what this neurotransmitter was used for for.  They discovered that Anandamide is a Cannabanoid.  This discovery opened the door to the whole endocannabanoid system.

What is a cannabanoid?

First of all there are 3 different types of cannabanoids.  1. There are ones that our bodies produce.  These are called Endogenous Cannabanoids.  2. There are ones that plants produce.  They are called phytocannabanoids.  3. The last group are the ones engineered in a lab.  These are called synthetic cannabanoids.

Regardless of type, cannabanoids regulate every system in our body.  They act like a key that fits a lock that brings our whole body back into harmony.  Cannabanoids regulate the nervous system, digestive system, reproductive, endocrine, muscular, and immune system.  This is some very important stuff here folks!  Cannabanoids keep the body balanced and stable.

We are going to focus on the cannabanoids from plants.  They are the ones called phytochemicals and they are in the news now.  They are derived from hemp.  The one you hear about is called CBD.

The endocannabanoid system is fundamentally a hormone regulation system throughout the body.  The body produces cannabanoids.  Plants also produce cannabanoids.

How does it work?

CBD is NOT Medical marijuana.  CBD and THC are not the same.  We need to discuss this.

Both CBD and THC come from the cannabis family.   They are both cannabanoids but they serve different purposes.  They have similar structures but there is a slight difference.  This slight difference is very important.  This slight difference enables THC to alter the consciousness of someone and CBD to not.

These aren’t the only cannabanoids either

CBD and THC are not the only cannabanoids.  There are over 100 other ones.  They all have their own little purpose.  They all sound similar – CBD, CBN, CBG, CBC, CBDA.  They come in different ratios and strengths.  They also have other compounds that come along with them called terpenes and flavanoids.

There are over 120 terpenes in cannabis plants.  These compounds are very aromatic and give cannabis that distinctive smell when its burned.   Terpenes are like the herbs and spices of the cooking world. These terpenes have a synergistic effect when they are mixed with the other cannabanoids.

The synergy created between the flavanoids and the cannabanoids magnifies their effect.  They each make the other better.  This is known as the “Entourage Effect.”  For the best results it is important to have the full spectrum of cnnabanoids, terpenes, and flavanoids.

There are other compounds in cannabis that add to this effect.   There are 483 others that we know of to date.  There are likely still ones we have not even found yet.  The point is that terpenes and flavanoids have a direct and synergistic  therapeutic effect on the cannabanoid system and make the medicine better as a whole.  This is very important because this synergism can’t be reproduced when you make your CBD in a pharmaceutical lab.  For the best results you need the real stuff – grown in the form of hemp.

Natural Hemp CBD is preferred over synthetic CBD.  Doseage may vary though.

The body will treat a product made from a natural hemp source as more of a food than it will a drug.  It will break hemp CBD down differently than synthetic CBD and it will metabolize it differently.  Due to this the laboratory made synthetic forms of the cannabanoid molecules cannot be as effective as extracts from the hemp plant itself.

CBD Oil needs to be analyzed for purity.  3rd party testing is done.  This means that somebody, other than the person who made it, tests the CBD oil for purity.  This must be a person who actually tests things for a living in an actual lab.

Ask to see the Certificate of Analysis  – COA

CBD is not psychoactive.  CBD products must have less than 0.3% THC to be sold.  You cannot get high from taking CBD.   Don’t waste your money if this is your intent.  CBD only promotes health.

The United States owns the patent on CBD

The US Department of Human Services states:

“No signs of toxicity or serious side effects have been observed- even in large acute doses of 700 mg/day.”  US Government Patent # 6,630,507

This patent states that CBD is:

anti epileptic (prevents seizures)

powerful antioxidant activity

treats Alzheimer’s Dementia

lowers pressure in the eye (intraocular) to treat glaucoma

protective of the brain when damaged from lack of oxygen

it supports the nutritional status of the elderly  – US Government Patent # 6,630,507

anti anxiety (anxiolytic effect)

protects the brain and nerves – US Government Patent # 6,630,507 – “Cannabanoids as Antioxidants & Neuroprotectants”

Using CBD products is not a fad that will go away.  This is a natural product that our bodies use to create balance and homeostasis throughout the body.  We are designed to be consuming it on a regular basis.  This is why we have receptors in our body for it.  If we don’t consume enough our body has to manufacture it.  This is why Dr. Mechoulam was so excited when they discovered a new system that regulates our body.

Try CBD out!  We carry the CBD Pure line of products.  All organic and no pesticides!

The only plant known to contain enough cannabanoids to treat the endocannabanoid system is Industrial Hemp.
